What changed?
America has been rapidly changing since the time it was founded. From the many wars it has endured and the fight for civil rights it hasn't only changed socially. The food Americans have consumed slowly changed with it. The cookbooks that were once very common to be used to find quirky new recipes to try at home seemed to have disappeared. More processed and boxed goodies came out and the word home cooked meal from scratch might as well have been tossed out of the window. The goodies that came in these boxes not only took minutes to prepare but sated the appetites of the busy American life. Many of these items are still seen about today in the shelves of grocery stores and better yet....our pantry.

1960's Commercial (Primary Source)
The commercial shown to the left, is three merged videos advertising three different products. They all come from the 1960's and promote their products in various ways. Poptarts were promoted as a treat and a quick and easy breakfast for everyone to eat. This made their sales pitch very convincing for the busy American life to slowly insert this item into their diet. As many didn't have the hour or 30 minutes it takes to make breakfast as they used to. These quick and easy breakfasts that came in boxes made it much easier for people to have a quick bite to eat before going about their busy day. |
A 2013 Pop-tart Commercial
In 2004, "The Crazy Good" slogan was invented. Looking at the two videos the change of how even the commercials have changed is evident. From using real people to advertise their products, it became a cartoon of animated pastries and people who advertised what they needed to get across to the consumer.
